Computing
At St Anthony’s, our Computing curriculum equips children with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world. We believe that all pupils should leave primary school as curious, responsible and empowered digital citizens—able to use technology safely, creatively and thoughtfully.
Our pupils use a range of digital tools to present ideas, collaborate with others and design solutions to real problems. They learn to evaluate software choices and use technology to support their learning across the curriculum.
Online safety is embedded in every year group. Children are taught how to:
- keep themselves safe online
- protect their personal information
- recognise unsafe or inappropriate behaviour
- understand their rights and responsibilities as digital users
We work closely with parents and carers to ensure that children receive consistent messages at home and at school. Weekly newsletters supply parents and carers with up to date information on technology and digital safety from The National College.
As technology evolves, we ensure our pupils are prepared for the digital realities of the 21st century. This includes:
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Children learn what AI is, how it is used in everyday life, and how to use it responsibly and ethically. We teach pupils that AI is a helpful tool—not a replacement for human thinking—and encourage them to question, reflect and check accuracy.
Misinformation & Disinformation
Our curriculum helps pupils develop the skills to:
- discern reliable information
- understand how misinformation spreads
- identify persuasive or misleading content
- evaluate sources with increasing independence
These skills support wider learning in reading, history and PSHE, helping pupils become informed, critical thinkers.
In addition to our computing curriculum, we make effective use of https://www.commonsense.org/ to support with lessons on digital literacy and online safety.
